Description
GenWyze – Certified Wyzenbeek Abrasion Tester
Overview
The GenWyze – Certified Wyzenbeek Abrasion Tester is designed to evaluate the abrasion resistance of fabrics and metals using the Wyzenbeek method. It simulates real-world wear by repeatedly rubbing a specimen against an abradant on a curved (cambered) surface under controlled load and tension. The outcome is reported as the number of cycles—commonly referred to as double rubs—completed before visible wear occurs.
Standards & Compliance
GenWyze supports testing aligned with common ASTM and ISO procedures and is also compatible with the LP-463KB-06-01 method, widely referenced in the automotive industry as the Chrysler / FCA / Stellantis abrasion requirement.
How Wyzenbeek Abrasion Testing Works
During a test, the specimen is secured on the frame and drawn across a defined path while a friction head rubs the specimen against
the abradant. The reciprocating motion creates consistent contact pressure and wear progression over time. As the cycles accumulate,
the operator evaluates the specimen for visible wear criteria (e.g., surface breakdown, fiber damage, coating wear-through, or other
specified failure points depending on the test plan and material).
- Specimen is mounted and tensioned for stable, repeatable contact during motion.
- Abradant + curved surface provides realistic abrasion geometry and consistent rubbing conditions.
- Cycles (double rubs) are counted to determine abrasion rating and comparative durability.
- Pass/fail or comparative grading can be defined by your internal QA criteria or the referenced method.
Why Labs Choose GenWyze
GenWyze is built for consistent quality control, product development validation, and supplier comparison testing where repeatability
matters. It is commonly selected for applications such as automotive interiors, seating and upholstery fabrics, coated textiles, performance materials, and industrial fabric testing—anywhere abrasion performance must be documented and controlled.
