Description
The Class J Impact Testing System is built for dependable, standards-based Charpy and Izod impact testing of plastics and rubber specimens, with expandable capability for tensile impact testing (film and sheet) when equipped with the appropriate pendulum and fixtures. It is an efficient, cost-effective solution for QC labs, material R&D, and production environments that require repeatable impact results across multiple test methods.
The system supports a wide testing scope with Charpy test energy from 1J to 50J (0.7–37 ft/lbs) and Izod test energy from 1J to 22J (0.7–16 ft/lbs). For accuracy and reduced measurement losses, Class J uses a shaftless encoder for angle measurement, providing 0.045° resolution while rotating without friction to minimize energy loss. Results resolution on the digital display is 0.01J, helping users capture small variations in absorbed energy.
Daily operation is simplified through a touchscreen interface that enables quick input of specimen dimensions, pendulum energy selection, units, and calibration data, and clearly displays results such as absorbed energy and impact toughness. The design also focuses on fast changeovers and alignment: interchangeable pendulums allow switching between Charpy, Izod, and tensile impact setups, while a rotating alignment concept supports quick and accurate specimen center alignment for Charpy testing. The single-column structure provides broader test space and is designed to accommodate future upgrades such as low-temperature impact test accessories.
The Class J system supports compliance with major international standards, including ISO 13802, ISO 8256, ISO 9854.1, ISO 180, ISO 179, and ASTM methods such as ASTM D256, ASTM D6110, ASTM D1822, along with calibration-related references including ASTM E74 (Class AA) and ISO 376. This makes it a strong choice for laboratories that need a flexible impact testing platform aligned with widely recognized test procedures.
